MAAP Accountant´s Statement of our Accessibility Policy

Accessibility

6.1 In October 2004 the final stage of the Disability Discrimination Act came into force. As early as December 1996 it became unlawful to treat disabled people less favourably for reasons relating to their condition. We recognise our obligation to make reasonable provisions for the 17% of the population with disabilities so that they can access this website.

6.2 This site makes every reasonable effort to comply with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) A-level standard. You can read more about these standards at the www.consortium.com website.

6.3 We have used Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to set the colour and size of the text within each page. Users can easily override our formatting options so they can better see the text.

6.4 We recommended you use the later version of the following browsers:

To gain the full benefit of this and other websites, we recommend you use the latest version of one of the following browsers:
  • Internet Explorer (for Windows or Mac)
  • Mozilla´s Firefox (for Windows, Mac or Linux)
  • Opera (for Windows, Mac or Linux)
  • Netscape (for Windows)
  • Apple´s Safari (for Mac)

6.5 Text enlargement:

  • Internet Explorer (Windows): Go to the 'View' menu, 'Text Size', and select your desired setting. The default is medium. Alternatively, if you have a mouse with a wheel you can hold the CTRL key on your keyboard whilst scrolling up or down with the wheel to alter the text size.
  • Internet Explorer 5.1 (Mac): Go to the View menu and use the 'Text Zoom' tool.
  • Mozilla (i.e. Firefox / Camino): Go to the 'View' menu and use the 'Increase Text Size' or 'Decrease Text Size' menu items. You can also use the CTRL key with the plus or minus to increase or decrease the size.
  • Apple Safari: Go the 'View' menu and use the 'Make Text Bigger' and 'Make Text Smaller' menu items. Alternatively you can use the option key with + or - to increase or decrease the text size.
  • Netscape 7 +: Go to the 'View' menu and use the 'Text Zoom' feature to change text size. Alternatively you can use the CTRL key with the plus or minus to increase or decrease the size.

6.6 Although the web browsers mentioned above might be helpful, they do not offer the same level of access as the magnification software packages developed by specialist software suppliers. The Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) website provides in-depth information for partially sighted web users.

6.7 If you have little or no vision, the internet can be accessed using a speaking browser and refreshable braille displays. A speaking browser reads aloud the contents of the entire website. Braille displays translate the site's content into braille, which can be read by touch. Visit the RNIB website for details of technology designed to help if you have a visual disability.

6.8 If you have a physical disabilities then the AbilityNet website provides information that can help you make better use of computers.

6.9 If you are still having problems, or have a question that you want to ask, please call us on 01202 482121 or email us at enquiries@maap.co.uk.
